Branded goods? Are they good?
Yesterday, I stepped into the LV outlet (orchard ion) for the first time in my life. I have to say, all the staff were friendly. I didn't go there to purchase anything. It was just window shopping so to speak. You see, joyce's sisters' are thinking of getting her this classic LV handbag. $2440. It's looks nice, and if I were a woman I would be tempted.
I am quite into watches nowadays, reading about automatics and quartz movements and all. Mechanical watches are really the epitome of human intelligence. Recently I bought a SEIKO frankenmonster diver because my company had 40% discount for all staff.
I love it. Its half formal, and half sporty. 200m water resistant with screw down crown. Shock resistent, it's big and heavy with substance. The lume is insane. You can read a book with the lume at night.
They say that SEIKO is a poor man's ROLEX. Rightly so, I heard that a ROLEX can cost up to $10,000. But of course, ROLEX is definitely superior to SEIKO. I had a collegue who bought a second hand ROLEX for $1800 for his wife. What a steal!
Branded goods may be superior in quality and function as a status symbol, but ultimately, even though I think ROLEX is a nice watch, I think SEIKO will more than suffice for my current lifestyle. For its price, it is quite a solid watch.
As Paul said, it is good to know when to abase and when to abound. Godliness and contentment is great gain. And in the case of branded goods, I know where I stand and where my limits are. It is a want, and not a need.
Unless, I become extremely wealthy in the future. Who knows? Haha.

Spurs 9 - 1 Wigan
When was the last time you saw a EPL match where the scoreline had a 9 in it? In my entire life as a spurs fan, about 13 years now, the biggest scoreline I can remember was spurs 6-0 oldham. That was the FA cup I believe. I would not have dreamt of a 9 goal rout. To win by 8 goals is nothing short of magnificent.
It could have been more. 2 shots shaved the posts and the Wigan goal was a handball, so it shouldn't have counted. I could have well been 11-0. But I shan't be greedy. Heehee.
The scoreline was great, but what's even greater was Spurs played so well. The commentator said things like,"so easy on the eye" and "its already 6-1 but the scary thing is, there is still 20 minutes left" (spurs scored 3 more). The thing is, when individual players made mistakes, a team mate covers for him. The substitutes had great attitudes as well, instead of sulking, they stepped up to the occassion. Bentley even had a wicked freekick resulting in number 8.
Player ranking for this game out of a score of 10.
Defoe(10) - Scored 5 goals with great accuracy and power. And still hungry for more.
Crouch (6) - Needs 10 chances to score 1 goal. Not a big fan of his.
Lennon(10) - Ran circles around edman the entire game. He finally learned how to cross properly.
Kranjcar (9) - Side stepping and spreading play superbly. Perfectly weighted passes. Makes it look easy.
Huddlestone (9) - Threading through passes from inside the Spurs half. Who needs Carrick?
Palacios (7) - Winning the ball in the middle of the pitch. The iron fist in the Spurs velvet glove.
Jenas (6) - Substitute. Didn't make his presence felt against a poor Wigan side.
Bentley (8) - Wicked free kick makes up for some mistakes. Needs more match practice.
Corluka (7) - Slow and steady. Would be better if he was fast and steady.
Dawson (7) - Braveheart. Would risk his neck to prevent a corner.
Woodgate (7) - Nothing much to do to be honest. Plays a little to the side for a center back.
Ekotto (7) - Love to see him running down the flanks more.
Gomes (7) - Besides the goal and a few catches. Practically unbothered.
Martin O'Neil must be peeing in his pants right now.
As a parting note, I loved how the commentator said it in the end. "Spurs wiped the floor with Wigan". And that's why I love my Spurs. COYS!!!

Lead a Disciplined Life!
This phase is my motto from now till the end of the year. I think alot of things can be solved if you lead a disciplined lifestyle.
If you run regularly and eat properly, you'll be trim and fit.
If you do your homework and projects consistently instead of waiting till the last minute, you'll not be stressed and you'll probably get better results.
If you balance your time for church, work, family, spouse, you'll probably have a happier relationship life with your loved ones.
Today I was struggling whether to run in the morning or not, I decided to go ahead and run. Covered 3.7km under a hot sun. Almost died. But happy.
Btw, I got this new Mizuno running singlet for $19 (on 40% discount). A bit heavy for a running singlet, but nevermind.
Lead a Disciplined Life! Don't procrastinate!

Lord of the Rings
I used to like to tell this joke. "Do you know what are the 3 rings in a marriage?" The answer is, "Proposal ring, Wedding ring, Suffering." Hopefully there's not suffering.
Anyway, I'm getting married in January, that's another 3 months. Wow. Things are happening so quickly!
Decided to pop by Orchard Ion's jewellery belt to get our wedding bands. Simple and nice.

Lean and Mean is the way to go
Joyce says that she doesn't like guys to be too bulky and chunky. "Lean can liao."
I have to say that I've been slacking in terms of running. I've been doing a little work with my weights at home, so I kinda neglected my running. 10 Kg each.
In fact, the dumb bells I have are a little worn out, while the running shoes I have at home is almost brand new. Man. Time to run a bit.
Totally random, my granny who was there when I took these photos

Just have to recognise that
I'm just not good at some things... Well, God made us in different shapes and sizes and nobody is perfect. There are some things I feel I'm good at, eating, messing up my room, making people laugh. Some things I am not so good at directions, remembering things, chasing girls.
When you try your best to change some things, but they don't, the next best thing is to learn to accept it.

Tidying some pencils
Some pencils were scattered around on my desk. I picked them up one by one. I placed the pencils in the drawer which I use to store pencils.

Cockroach wars
About 3 months ago, I had this encounter with a cockroach. I know what you're thinking (yuck, kel's home is so filthy! so many cockroach stories). Well I have to say that my house is quite clean really. Just that from time to time, a cockroach will show up and try to be funny.
Anyways I was on my comp in the living room one day 3 months ago, when I suddenly heard a fluttering sound, like a plastic like sound, something like 2 fingernails hitting each other (something like that lah). I looked to my left and saw a cockroach the size of thumbdrive right beside me against a pile of boxes on my white chair.
I was like, geez, my house needs cleaning! I rushed to grab my weapon of choice, a roll of old newspaper. I sneaked towards the beast and swiftly brought it down whacking it. Not that I'm bragging, but my aim is usually spot on.
However, I couldn't find the body anywhere, thinking that it got away, I carried on with my comp.
Guess what...
Yesterday, amongst the boxes, there it lay...
It was so dead that it's legs fell off. All that's left is that crispy black body I had to pick it up with toilet paper. Buried it in the dustbin that day. R.I.P.

$20 bye bye
For those of you who know me, I set myself a resolution in the beginning of the year to be summon free for 2009. Since the start of the year, I've been extremely careful to put my carpark coupons, top up my cashcard, etc.
Alas, on Saturday night after visting Duncan and Vivien's little boy Raemus, we went for supper near Adam road. And there it struck. The my first summon of the year.
$20 donation. Argh!!!

Money Money Money
Met up with Karen the other day talking about my finances, I realised I have to really find out where my money goes to every month. Because I had no clear idea. My rough idea is so rough.
Because of this, I've been faithfully keying in every expenditure for the last 3 weeks. I have to tell you, that the bulk of my money goes to birthdays, weddings, red packets and taxis so far. Maybe I should make less friends... (kidding!)
Anyway, I'm making a conscious effort to save especially on travel, and food. The good thing about my company is that I can eat a simple vegetable rice meal for about $2.10. That means $10.50 for one week of weekday lunches. (Oh What savings!)
The challenge is to save vigorously and at the same time be a generous person. What's the point in saving religously and turn into a scrooge. Maybe I can be selectively generous... hmm...
Haha...

Sorry for not blogging...
Reason for not blogging?
Maybe it's due to my bout of fever over the 4 days I fell sick, but I think I lost abit of weight. My jeans feel baggy (like my old Alien workshop baggy jeans).
Well, it could also mean I am a lot busier, more work means more energy being used, which means weight loss. Recently due to deadlines, my entire project has been in an OT frenzy.
Gosh, my gf asked me the other day, "must you work so hard?" I was like, "no choice leh, got a lot of work, and not enough time".
Nowadays I find it harder and harder to make time to do things. Seems like, I very often need to choose to do some things and forget about the other. I need grace...

I am a Taiwanese
Well, one week after returning from Taiwan, I realised that I am still missing Taiwan. (lesser now though) Man, I really love the place, nice (cheap) food, friendly people, beautiful scenery. Things you can't really find elsewhere.
Anyway, reason for being in Taiwan if you don't already know, is for my wedding shoot with Joyce. It was fun taking the photos. (I won't be revealing any shots until next year)
The sunset at dan shui is so beautiful. Just a golden yoke sitting on the clear endless horizon. A flawless blend of orange, yellow and blue. God's very own paint brush dancing on the evening sky, perfecting every stroke as the sun dims. You got to go see that.
I am really a Taiwanese on the inside.

Lost in Ubin
We got Lost in Ubin a few weeks ago. It was a great time of fun, as this is one of the few times, we did outdoor outreaches for our WYZ Tertiary group. It was a lot of hard work! Especially for Jeremy Kuang, Peng Huat and also Weiwen. They really cycled Ubin many times. So much so they didn't need any maps anymore. It was tatooed into their brain.
We had background workers like medics too! Thanks for volunteering your services, Felicia, Clara, Edward, Jeremy and Angela.About 220 people turned up for this. which means that there were about 220 cyclists. Much grass died that day.Yuzhen really enjoyed herself. Enough said.Sprawled around Ubin were 23 checkpoints which teams would need to find. They are very well hidden, haha. Many complained that they couldn't find them. They even said, that it doesn't exist. Of course they found it eventually. No choice. Tertiary level, need to make things challenging. Haha....Are you ready? 1, 2, 3 GET LOST!!!

Last Day
People come and people go. Well, this saying is so true, it's time to say goodbye to my good friend weihowe who is moving on in his career.
We had a special farewell BBQ on our company's rooftop just for him. Had some simple food, not full scale BBQ, but sort of like a mini-BBQ. Nowadays who wants the hassle of a full blown BBQ?Oh look, here are some hungry ghosts eating their food. Yummy. Some of my lunch gang colleagues... haha... not all of us from the same project, but we always hang out.
What's a BBQ without a beer or two? Maggie really became very red after her bottle. She's the one with the big bottle. Yup. I had my favourite bottle too. Very sweet. = D. Jennifer is being crazy again... as usual... haha... And Wayne is joining in, being crazy also... Why is this happening?? Oh well, if you can't beat them, join them. Haha... Vincent just freaked out! All the best in New Zealand Weihowe!

Another hawker surprise
After encountering the vegetarian sambal fried rice, I had another culinary adventure, or should i say misadventure.
I was suppering with Joyce at Chomp chomp the other night. We ordered white fried carrot cake.
When the carrot cake arrived, it was extremely oily and with little or no egg. I mean the egg is like half an egg. It was more like fried white turnip only.
Not being one who complains, I just ate it, only to find some surprising finds in my carrot cake... ... ...
A chunk of Otah.
I kid you not. I was like ??? How come got Otah in my fried carrot cake?! If I wanted otah wouldn't I order otah? Was it a new cooking style? Was it because the hawker didn't like my face? Why otah?!
My conclusion is that the stall was selling otah as well. So it was probably an accident.
Maybe next time I would find a chicken drum in my bak chor mee.
A chunk of Otah! gosh.

Top 5 Favourite Snacks 2009
Here are my top 5 favourite snacks in 2009 so far. (try them !)
1) Camel's Baked Almonds
This is my top of my list. It's baked, so it's not salted, or honey roasted like most other nuts. I like it this way cause it brings out the natural fragrance of the almonds. Delightfully crunchy, (something like pocky), I can finish a bag in one week. It doesn't stick to your teeth like peanuts, it sort of just glides down your throat. High in protein and fibre.
2) Ceres Pineapple Juice
I drink Ceres natural fruit juices cause it's really fresh and natural. The pineapple juice here is not too sour, its mostly sweet with a bit of sour. Very refreshing and thirst quenching. I like it after it's chilled at the bottom of my fridge on a hot day.
3) Wasabi Mini Crackers
They come in extremely small packets. About the size of a thumb nail. There are 2 crackers in a packet. Wasabi flavoured with crunchy sesame seeds. Very addictive. Don't know if they sell it in Singapore.
4) Chicken McNuggets
There are no nuggets like macdonalds chicken mcnuggets. I love it when its fresh and hot. My favorite sauce of them all is probably mustard. Tangy on the tongue. Shiok.
5) Otah Otah
My favorite night snack. I like those that has fish chunks embedded in the Otah. I can finish 5 at one go. The brand I usually eat has a logo of a man with his tongue sticking out. Forgot the brand name though. Otah!

KG Tips #5 Neat and Tidy
There are many benefits to having a neat and tidy workspace or room or house. Everything looks nicer, you feel less stressed and you get to find your things fast cause you know exactly where to look.
There are basically 3 steps to clean up your environment...
1) Throw things away
Firstly throw away everything that you don't need. This may include old textbooks, clothes you don't wear anymore (you can recycle if you want), old receipts, etc. Keep your rubbish empty as far as possible.
2) Organise your stuff
Secondly, organise your stuff, basically group common things together and put it in a single location. Eg. stationary in a stationary drawer, photos in a shoebox, books on the shelf, bags hanging behind the door, clothes all hanging in the wardrobe, etc.
3) Clean everything
Thirdly, take out some soapy water to clean your items. CDs collect dust quickly and need regular cleaning. Clean your table tops, cupboard tops, areas behind bookshelfs. No point being neat if it isn't clean as well.
4) Maintain
Keep putting your things according to where they should be. From time to time, take some soapy to clean your items. No point having a neat environment for a day. Make it last.
Hope this helps!

KG Tips #4 Exercise with friends
All of us can do with more exercise. Especially all those who are working. One of the most common excuses for not exercising is that by the time they reach home from work, they are just too tired.
That's why I run with my colleagues twice a week after work. It's great cause when you feel lazy, somehow you would end up running cause they would be.
It takes a lot of self-discipline to run by yourself. But with friends, it becomes fun and not so boring.
Exercising keeps you in shape, keeps your heart beating and is a great way to de-stress. Pity that Joyce doesn't run... ... at all.

KG Tips #3 "Do things today"
Sound familiar?
I used to always procrastinate when I have a task I need to accomplish. I would always think, "Since it's not urgent, I'll wait till later." I found out that I would forget that I need to do this task, and end up doing it last minute hastily.
Eg. studying for tests, returning a friend's DVD, wishing someone happy birthday, etc.
The moral of the story is, "Always do things asap, so that you do not need to keep it at the back of your head. Just do it and forget about it."

Eg. studying for tests, returning a friend's DVD, wishing someone happy birthday, etc.

KG Tips #2 "Eat Less"
This is somehow linked to tip 1. Eat less, spend less, save more.
Anyway, I used to be a very very big eater. Ask any of my colleagues and they would tell you I sometimes eat 2 lunches in a day. Eg. Mee Pok Tah and Chicken Rice. I'm always hungry, especially at night, I'm so vulnerable to suppers. Eg. Half-spring chicken rice in my room(go to sleep after eating)
Gone are those days. Now for lunch, it's just Eg. Mee Pok Tah and papaya. For supper, it's just Eg. a half a plate of fried rice.
This tip is really about sharing. You get to taste different foods, and you end up eating less. So next time before you dig into your plate of hor fun, get another bowl and share it with your neighbor.

KG Tips #1 "Saving Money"
I'm going to do a short series about simple habits I have acquired during my life time here as a person. Hopefully this would benefit some of you. =D
One thing about myself is that I don't buy things on impulse and then regret later. Usually if I have something in mind that I really want to buy (things that cost above $100 or so), I would wait a while, say for a week or two, before really buying it. I would surf and look at it online, I would stop by the shop to take a look a few times.
I realised that after 2 weeks, my desire to buy them dropped dramatically. I ended up not spending that kind of money.
Could you imagine if I bought things on impulse? I would have bought a car already(which means I'd be in debt, which means I'd be eating $1.90 nasi lemak everyday)
Try it, and see if it can save you some money.

Gillian's Ten Ten Ten Ten
Just want to wish Ghim Hua and Gillian a blissful marriage. Some of us were there. More and more people are getting married. So far, Ling, Lian, Xia, Yi are already married. Tian, Jason and myself are getting married soon. Kelv and Sha... erm... ehem... *cough*
Anyway it happened in the Halia Restaurant at the Botanic Gardens(talk about going green). To be honest, hadn't been to botanic gardens since earth begun. The food was really good. Bernard really whacked the tuna sashimi dish. He must hate them a lot. I ended up getting 2-3 plates for him. Good to see him after so long. We had the same birthday, same primary school, same secondary school, same JC (same class).Atmosphere was good. We chit chatted quite abit. It was a wonderful end to a Sunday. Once again, Congrats Lian!

The Mummy (not the Egyptian kind)
Met up with some old friends the other day at TCC Raffles Place. Not many of us were there. Only Sha, Yi, Tian and myself. The guys couldn't make it. Kelv was flying and Jason was probably suing someone in court or something.Celebrated Sha's birthday. Finally she's back from Hong Kong after like 3 years These were my best JC friends, we spent quite a lot of time together last time. Of course not all of them were present. But nowadays, it's hard to have everybody turning up.I have not seen Yi for a long time so can't believe she is so pregnant. Also cannot believe Yi is the first one to become a mummy(not the egyptian kind). She's so small. She's the shortest too among all of us. But now she win already.Hope to see more of you guys next time! Till we meet again at Gil's wedding. (this sunday) haha!
